You’d REALLY like to be in the Dolomites right now!

The Village of Völs am Schlern in the Italian Dolomites, South Tyrol.

How do we know that you’d like to be in the Italian Dolomites right now? Because WE’D like to be in the Italian Dolomites right now. Just look at this photo taken during one of our guided hiking tours last summer. The little village that you see in the photo is called Völs am Schlern (in German), also known as Fiè allo Sciliar in Italian. The region is bilingual because, although it’s part of Italy now, this part of the Dolomites used to belong to Austria. If you look closely, you can see the onion domed church and the triangular-shaped chalets that are so characteristic of the Austrian Alps. Hiking around Völs is incredible. Amazing scenery meets Italian wine, Austrian strudel, and the whitest and fluffiest down comforters that you’ve ever slipped into. The mountain that you see in the background is called the Schlern (German) or the Sciliar (Italian). We do a nice warm up hike below the base of the Schlern on our first hiking day, stopping at a mountain chalet for lunch. Then we pop over to the other side and continue hiking through wildflower-filled meadows and eventually to an incredibly situated hut above tree line.

We think it’s heaven.
