  • "We just got back from a self-guided Ryder-Walker trip - Italian Dolomites Ambiance, our first time travelling with Ryder-Walker. It was a phenomenal trip. Ryder-Walker did a great job of planning the trip. Each day's hike offered something different and the hotels were truly exceptional. The Vamoos app offered a great way to get around without any worry of getting lost. The highlight of the trip was our stay at the Rifugio Alpe di Tires - what an amazing experience! We are already studying the Ryder-Walker catalogue to pick out our next trip."- Robert England
  • "The routes were perfect for us - just long enough and just difficult enough. The maps were great and the written instructions were perfect when read together with the maps. The rifugio was the best. The hotel La Perla was amazing. Everything worked smoothly, from the luggage transport to the hotel reservations to the daily maps. The La Perla definitely belongs in the "Leading Hotels of the World." It was so nice to be pampered at the end of the trip. Their spa was also terrific."- Amy Kurland

Trip Highlights:

  • Hike the Alp di Siusi, the largest "Alp" in the Alps.
  • Take in the views of the Austrian Alps to the north.
  • Enjoy a less-strenuous version of our standard Dolomites Trek.

The Easygoing Italian Dolomites trek explores one of the earth’s most beautiful and dramatic mountain ranges at a more relaxed pace. Towers of vertical limestone, tinged pink in the evening light, rise above rolling green meadows, ancient castles, and the onion-domed church steeples of the enchanting Alto Adige region of Northern Italy. Just as captivating is the region’s blend of Tyrolean, Italian, and Ladin cultures.

Our point-to-point route travels from west to east, linking spectacular mountain scenery in the Sciliar, Sassolungo, and Puez-Odle ranges with some of the most atmospheric villages in the Dolomites. Hiking days are moderate, with distances up to 8 miles and elevation gains up to 2200 feet. You’ll hike primarily on high mountain footpaths, many above tree line, and take advantage of lifts where appropriate, allowing you to reach spectacular viewpoints without the sustained climbs of our more challenging Dolomites treks. More or less challenging options are available on some days, but hikers should be prepared for the most challenging days described in the itinerary.

Your journey begins in the historic Tyrolean village of Völs am Schlern, beneath the imposing limestone walls of the Sciliar. From the Alpe di Siusi, the largest high alpine meadow in Europe, views stretch from the nearby Sassopiatto and Sassolungo to the Ortler, Stubai, and Zillertal Alps to the north. Hiking beneath the Sassolungo brings you into Val Gardena, where you spend two nights in Sëlva di Gardena, giving you time to explore the surrounding mountains and villages.

From Sëlva, continue across the Passo di Gardena into Alta Badia, heartland of the centuries-old Ladin culture. Dramatic limestone peaks rise above broad alpine meadows as you make your way toward Corvara, a picturesque mountain village surrounded by the Sella massif and some of the finest hiking terrain in the Dolomites.

Along the Easygoing Italian Dolomites route, you’ll stay in charming four-star inns, with one night in a simple mountain refuge. From antique Tyrolean inns with hand-painted furniture to welcoming properties known for their hospitality, ambiance, and cuisine, each stay reflects the character of the village and region.

The cuisine is equally distinctive, blending Austrian and Tyrolean traditions with Italian influences, accompanied by the excellent wines of the Alto Adige.
