Our 40th Jubliäum adventure kicks off in the picturesque, alpine resort village of Klosters, then journeys to the quaint village of Guarda, before a night at our romantic hotel perched at 8057 feet, and culminates with a luxurious stay at our 5-Star grand hotel in Pontresina. Each accommodation has been carefully selected for its ambiance, cuisine, and exceptional level of comfort.
The Engadine Valley lies in the heart of the Swiss Alps and runs from the Engadine Lakes in the south to the Inn River in the north. It’s boasts charming towns, villages, and a rich blend of Swiss and Romansh culture. Our anniversary trek offers a variety of moderate hikes to more challenging high-alpine routes with pristine alpine landscapes of glacial lakes, towering peaks, and lush meadows.
Trip Itinerary
Transfer to the Alpine resort village of Klosters. Meet your guides and group for welcome drinks and dinner.
A looping day hike out of our hotel in Klosters Platz first heads through Klosters Dorf before climbing to the Berghaus Alpenrosli for a proper alpine lunch. The afternoon’s descent brings us through appropriately named farm enclave of ‘Alp’ and then on through the Walser village of Monbiel and a beautiful finish to Klosters.
Distance: 7 miles. Elevation gain/loss: 2000 ft.
An incredible day crossing the Jöriseen , a series of beautifully colored glacial lakes. We start with a short transfer to the Berghaus Vereina to set up our climb to the high basin of the Jöri lakes. After an idyllic picnic spot, we cross the Jörifless Pass to descend the eastern side of Flüela Pass. The route ends with a quick transfer to the hillside village of Guarda.
Distance: 8 miles. Elevation gain/loss: 2400/2800 ft.
Today we hike up the charming Val Tuoi. This verdant valley terminates at the Austrian border. The iconic Piz Buin towers over the head of the valley, above our destination, the Chamonna Tuoi. The hut offers a delicious menu for lunch. Return to Guarda on a forested trail on the south side of the valley.
Distance: 8 miles. Elevation gain/loss: 2500 ft.
We transfer to the Upper Engadine valley region where we ascend into the wilderness of Val Champagna and to the alpine gem, Lej Muragl before crossing the Tschumas da Muottas, mountain pass. Overnight at the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl. Distance: 8 miles. Elevation gain/loss: 3500/1000 ft. An easier option today is an out and back hike and alpine picnic to Lake Lej Muragl.
Distance: 5 miles. Elevation gain/loss: 1000 ft.
We begin with a funicular ride offering arguably the finest vista in the Alps followed by a traverse to one of the highest hikeable summits in the region before descending to the charming village of Pontresina. Distance: up to 9 miles. Elevation gain/loss: up to 3400 ft. An easier option today is a hike to Piz Padella without the summit.
Distance: 7 miles. Elevation gain/loss: up to 2000/1000 ft.
The Val Fex is a gem that is often overlooked in the Upper Engadine. From Sils Maria we meander through forested terrain to gain the flanks of the Muott’Ota, then embark on a switchback up this bald summit to enjoy views of the Silsersee, Maloja, the Val Bregaglia and the peaks surrounding the Lunghin Pass. Hike down the valley through charming hamlets with options to descend back to town on sinuous farm roads, or climb to the Furtschellas cable car for a ride back to our grand hotel.
